Percy Jackson and the Olympians- Rick Riordian

This post will be updated when I finish the series. I'm trying to review series together if they are complete. Check back in a few weeks in you're interested in reading my thoughts on the series!

  1. One of my favorite middle-grade series! I can't wait to hear your opinion! Definitely move on to The Lost Hero upon finishing The Last Olympian. Are you planning to read his Egyptian series as well? It's also well-written. I'm so eager to read the second book this May!

If you like Greek mythology, keep a look-out for two Teen debuts in April and May (or is it June?): Starcrossed by osephine Angelini and The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. Also, while it's not a debut author, this October, Tera Lynn Childs is launching the first book in her new trilogy about Medusa's descendants (who are triplets). It's called Sweet Venom. She's previously written two books on Greek Mythology and two for mermaids.

I'm looking forward to all three of these!

  2. I am definitely going to check out the Egyptian one. I'm actually an Anthropology major with a concentration in Ancient History and Near Eastern language and culture at Penn. I'm studying to be an Egyptologist/archaeologist, depending on where I get a job. I'm probably going to be reading the series with all of my knowledge from class in mind so hopefully that doesn't detract from the experience.
I have Sweet Venom on my TBR. It's the cover of the back of the girl and her hair is braided with a snake at the end, right?

  3. That's really cool. I didn't know that! You're much more ambitious than I am! I hope reading The Red Pyramid won't be marred by what you already know, too. Rick Riordan put a lot of research into it, so hopefully...! I didn't know much about Egyptian mythology, so I enjoyed it. I feel like I learned more than I did with his first series b/c he explained more. In PJ, he sometimes just assumes people know all the Greek stuff. He didn't with this one. I'm so excited for the sequel in May! We're doing some kind of big Egyptian launch party at B&N on May 7th, but I don't know quite what yet, only that I'm working it, lol! I also have Nefertiti by Michelle Moran to read, as well as Sphinx's Princess by Esther Friesner. Have you read either of these?

Yes, that's Sweet Venom! I'm so, so excited to read it!

  4. I definitely have to check it out before the sequel. Many times I've had it in my hand at the bookstore, but I always find something that I want to read more. And if I read it before May, I want to come to the launch party. If costumes are allowed, I might dress up! =)

I have Nefertiti but I haven't read it. I think that I'm might start reviewing the more academic Egypt/Archaeology books that I read. A lot of them are marketed at a general audience and I really enjoy them.

  5. You can come to the launch party even if you haven't gotten to the first book by May :) And it's TOTALLY okay to dress up ^_^

I haven't read Nefertiti yet myself, but I bought it when B&N was selling bargain copies. Couldn't resist!

I need to read more Egyptian books. I'll keep an eye here!
